GRANT OVERMIRE, M.S. LMFT

Licensed Marriage Family Therapist #125891

Grant Overmire earned his Bachelor's Degree in Psychology followed by a Master’s in Education Psychology and Counseling from California State University Northridge. Grant's career in mental health began in 2012 working with those seeking help with substance use disorder, which often exposed him to people with dual diagnosis. Grant has worked in a variety of clinical settings ranging from inpatient residential to outpatient and even long-term recovery housing.  Through his work, Grant has often found himself treating those struggling with a variety of mental health disorders including Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Bipolar Disorder, Major Depressive Disorder and Generalized Anxiety Disorder.

When we talk about theoretical orientation, Grant adopts a psychodynamic approach, which includes the fundamental tenets of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Gestalt Method, The Gottman Method and he structures his sessions with these principles in mind. He believes in meeting the patient where they are at and addressing what’s occurring in the “here and now”.  Grant believes that everyone is capable of changing the plot to their story at any given time and he is dedicated to assisting them in that journey.

Outside of his practice, Grant feels most at home at the beach. He is well versed in health and fitness, is a licensed skydiver and certified master scuba diver.  He believes strongly in the mind-body connection and feel both components cannot be treated as mutually exclusive.  Grant believes it is critical to tap into the things that bring us joy, no matter how small they may seem.
